Murder in the Streets
By: Susannah Godfrey
Last night, while the city was sleeping, a heinous crime was committed. According to eye witnesses a lone woman was seen casually walking through the town. Out of nowhere a sleek car sped around the corner and collided with the woman. The woman was thrown forty feet landing on her neck. The victim was killed instantly. Autopsy results report that the victim obtained a broken ribs, neck, arms, and tibia. The cause of death was internal bleeding and a broken spinal column.
The victim has been identified as Myrtle Wilson of The valley of Ashes. She is survived by her husband, George Wilson.
Authorities are now searching for the guilty assailant. The car was last seen speeding away from the scene. It is a sleek new model with a New York license plate. If you have any new information concerning the matter please call 1800-395-3333.

Widowed Man Opens Up
By: Samantha Seaman
George Wilson, an owner of a run-down auto shop at the edge of the valley of ashes was made a widower yesterday. His wife, Myrtle, died unexpectedly in a car crash. After many question about their relationship, Wilson opens up and lets The Twitterin Twenties know it all.
Though Mr. and Mrs. Wilson had a rough relationship, when questioned if he really, deeply loved his wife, Wilson answered, “I have never loved anything more, she was everything to me.” We then went straight to the question to silence all the gossip, “there’s been a rumor floating around that your wife was having secret meetings with another man, do you know anything about this?” In a solemn tone he replied,” yes, she was with another man, before she died I confronted her about her lover and told her that she could not hide her sin from the eyes of God.” But we know that’s not the end of it. So we continued to ask, “What are your plans now that your beloved wife is dead?” Without hesitation Wilson answered,” I believe that whoever was driving the car that killed my Myrtle was her lover and I am determined to find who that is, and put him in his place.” There you have it. Though George Wilson’s wife cheated on him, he is still driven to find the culprit and turn him in for what he’s done.

Another Act Passed
By:Samantha Seaman
Just two days ago Congress and the Senate have passed the 18th amendment, known as the Volstead Act. It has been named after Andrew Volstead, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, which oversaw the bill. However, it was the Anti-Saloon League's Wayne Wheeler who conceived and drafted the bill. This act prohibits the manufacture, sale, transport, import or export of alcoholic beverages. The Volstead Act defines intoxication liquor as any beverage containing more than 0.5% alcohol and supersedes all existing prohibition laws in effect in states that have such legislation.
Many make a living of selling alcoholic beverages, so we asked a salesman of a local store what he thought of this new amendment and with rage he answered, “I hate it! Alcohol is the number one thing I sale in here, without it this store will go down soon!” Another salesman simple replied, “It’s a joke, and hopefully it will be repealed soon.”
On the contrast, politicians are saying, “we anticipate that alcohol's banishment will lead to the destruction of poverty, while all together ennobling the common man to achieve his highest goals”. Also many see it as the “devil’s advocate,” and with any luck this act will reduce crime, poverty, death rates, and improve the economy and the quality of life.
Though there’s a positive and negative effect, it can decrease the crimes in the United States but many will lose their jobs, the reality of the Volstead Act is to reduce the consumption of alcohol. How this will affect the United States is left unknown.

If you haven’t been invited to one of Gatsby’s parties you’re missing out. But no worries we slipped into one to give you the inside scoop on what goes on in the enormous mansion. Many marvel over Gatsby’s Rolls-Royce, his clear blue swimming pool, his magnificent beach, and crates of fresh oranges and lemons. There are buffet tents in the beautiful gardens overflowing with an endless feast, as a live orchestra plays under the stars. The Other Romance
By: Jessica Biggs
Amidst the drama of Daisy Buchanan and Jay Gatsby another romance was hidden. Tom Buchanan and Mrs. Myrtle Wilson have a little fun of their own on the side. Mrs. Wilson agreed to answer a few questions for the article. “Mrs. Wilson, tell me about your life with your husband, George.” “It’s Myrtle. I don’t want to be remembered as the wife of that wretched man. Our life… is boring. Predictable. That’s why life with Tom is so great and exciting. When I’m with Tom I live and am finally happy. I never feel like that with that goon George.” “But you don’t get life with Tom very often, do you? I mean, he’s with Daisy and his daughter most of the time.” “I suppose. Perhaps that’s what makes the romance so exciting. I can hardly stand the wait and every second I’m with him needs to be used to the fullest extent. There’s no saying no with Tom.” “And what about his family he leaves behind when he comes to see you?” “You mean his ditz of a wife? She didn’t deserve him. She didn’t realize what she had with him. And anyway, Tom was going to leave her. He loved me more then he ever loved her. When he leaves her, she’ll be well enough off with Gatsby anyway. Tom and I will live happy lives together” “And his daughter?” “Well of course she’ll stay with us. Daisy isn’t fit to raise a child. She has no idea about how to raise a kid. I would love Tom’s child as if she were my own. I would be a great mother to her.” “And you have no problem with the dishonesty that this child will learn from your example?” The only thing she’ll learn from mine and Tom’s relationship is true love and how it conquers all.” How very romantic. There you have it folks, the DL on The Buchanan/Wilson Affair from Myrtle Wilson’s point of view. It’ll be fun to watch how this thing works itself out.

Another Summer Night Party at Gatsby's?
By: Jessica Biggs
Last night was just another fabulous party at Jay Gatsby’s. The food, as expected, was divine. The music, perfect. But the night ended with a crash. Crowds gathered not 50 feet from Gatsby’s front doors to see the scene. People were greeted with the sight of a new coupe crashed deep in a ditch, a tire lying 20 feet away. Two men, neither harmed, were reported to be in the car. The first, a confused passenger who didn’t know how the accident happened. The driver apparently had some fun at the party, a little too much fun, perhaps, at the bar. It was reported that the drunk man stepped unsteadily out of the car, dazed and in awe at the sight of the mangled car. He asked where the nearest gas station was, apparently under the impression that the coupe needed a tank of gas to begin going again. It wasn’t until a bystander pointed out the missing tire that the man came up with the brilliant idea of just “backing the car out.” It took nearly 20 minutes for nearby chauffeurs to coax the man to sit and drink a glass of water and to rethink his plan for the car. After the delay, Gatsby was seen on his front porch, waving gaily at his leaving guests.

Henry Ford Hits 15 Million
By: Jessica Biggs
Henry Ford’s cars have made quite a ruckus in the automobile business the past few years. His progress in the automobile world has been phenomenal and it shows in the cars Americans prefer to drive. In a poll taken of 100 people, 67 percent said they would choose Ford over another competitor. All over the United States people are satisfied driving Ford’s cars. It was reported at 4 pm yesterday afternoon that Ford hit 15 million sales on his original Model-Ts. If Model-Ts alone are selling that well now, in a few years Henry Ford’s going to be making big bucks. We approached him for a statement and found that he is delighted with his newfound fame: “Indeed it is great that the company is doing so well; I’m very satisfied with the progress. I wait for the day when every American can say he drives a Ford.” Henry, that day might come sooner then you think if your company keeps growing! He also wants everyone to know that a new Model is being built as we speak and is planned to be revealed next fall. “Until then, check out our Model-T, available in blue, yellow, red, black, and white.”
The Suffering for Women's Suffrage Ends!!!!
By:Susannah Godfrey
Finally, after decades of struggle, women have been granted the right to vote! On August 18, 1920, Congress ratified the nineteenth amendment to the U.S. constitution. This amendment now prohibits any state or federal government from denying any citizen the right to vote due to that person’s sex.
Even though this news comes as excitement to women across the nation, a long road was journeyed in order to reach this marvelous victory. In early years women were seen as only a caretaker of home and family, with no rights whatsoever. Over time views have shifted and women have slowly but surely gained power and independence. For example, back in 1848 many women gathered at the Seneca Falls Convention. Women Rights’ activist such as Susan B. Anthony, Margret Fuller, and Elizabeth Cady Stanton organized and conducted the meeting. In this meeting, women rallied for political, social, and educational rights. This convention set off a chain reaction of women rights’ activist that would last up until this day.
Due to the strong women that stood up for their beliefs, women young and old everywhere can now partake of the sweet fruits of liberty. The battle is over! Women now at last can begin to develop their own places in the American society
