Amidst the drama of Daisy Buchanan and Jay Gatsby another romance was hidden. Tom Buchanan and Mrs. Myrtle Wilson have a little fun of their own on the side. Mrs. Wilson agreed to answer a few questions for the article. “Mrs. Wilson, tell me about your life with your husband, George.” “It’s Myrtle. I don’t want to be remembered as the wife of that wretched man. Our life… is boring. Predictable. That’s why life with Tom is so great and exciting. When I’m with Tom I live and am finally happy. I never feel like that with that goon George.” “But you don’t get life with Tom very often, do you? I mean, he’s with Daisy and his daughter most of the time.” “I suppose. Perhaps that’s what makes the romance so exciting. I can hardly stand the wait and every second I’m with him needs to be used to the fullest extent. There’s no saying no with Tom.” “And what about his family he leaves behind when he comes to see you?” “You mean his ditz of a wife? She didn’t deserve him. She didn’t realize what she had with him. And anyway, Tom was going to leave her. He loved me more then he ever loved her. When he leaves her, she’ll be well enough off with Gatsby anyway. Tom and I will live happy lives together” “And his daughter?” “Well of course she’ll stay with us. Daisy isn’t fit to raise a child. She has no idea about how to raise a kid. I would love Tom’s child as if she were my own. I would be a great mother to her.” “And you have no problem with the dishonesty that this child will learn from your example?” The only thing she’ll learn from mine and Tom’s relationship is true love and how it conquers all.” How very romantic. There you have it folks, the DL on The Buchanan/Wilson Affair from Myrtle Wilson’s point of view. It’ll be fun to watch how this thing works itself out.
